If you have a dog or cat that is three months of age or older, it must be registered with Murrindindi Shire Council.

*Pet owners are eligible for a discounted registration if their pet is:

  • desexed
  • over 10 years of age
  • a farm working dog
  • part of a domestic animal business or applicable organisation
  • has an obedience certificate issued by an approved organisation
  • a hound registered with the Game Management Authority 

Pensioner discounts are available to people holding a valid Concession Card. Health care cards are not eligible.

Your registration fee includes the State Government Levy per cat and dog. This levy is used to fund responsible pet ownership education programs.

Registration fees are charged annually. The registration year starts on 10 April and ends 9 April the following year.

How to register your pet

Follow the steps below to register your pet.

Online

Step 1.Keeping multiple pets?

Residents in residential areas are limited to keeping no more than two dogs and two cats. Residents in rural areas are limited to keeping up to five dogs and five cats. Before registering your pet(s), you will need to complete at Additional Animal Permit Application.

Step 2.Prepare your information

Have copies of evidence of desexing and microchipping available to help you complete the form. If you are entitled to a concession, have your Pensioner Concession Card number with you.

Step 3.Complete the form

Download and complete a Pet Registration Form(PDF, 28KB) and email it, along with any supporting documentation, to customer@murrindindi.vic.gov.au

Step 4.Make payment

Pay your pet registration fee through our online payments portal.

Step 5.After you submit the form

A certificate of registration and identification tag will be mailed to you.

In Person

Step 5.Make payment

Payment can be made in person by cash, cheque or card.

Payable to Murrindindi Shire Council. If you wish to pay by debit or credit card, ensure you tick this option on the Pet Registration Form and our Customer Service team will contact you to arrange payment once the form has been received.
