Our Commitment to Rebuilding

Council is committed to rebuilding it's roads and infrastructure damaged during the October 2022, October 2023 and January 2024 floods; all declared natural disaster events.

Many immediate repairs are already complete and further works are planned.

Understanding Disaster Recovery Funding

The process of disaster recovery is multifaceted and involves various funding arrangements.

The Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) is the means through which the Australian Government provides funding to states and territories to share the financial burden of responding to a disaster, and supports the provision of urgent financial assistant to disaster affected communities.

Our Approach

  • Comprehensive Planning: We develop detailed plans that prioritise the most critical repairs across our Shire.
  • Seeking funding via DRFA: Detailed plans for repairs are then submitted for approval to proceed. This approval process ensures Council is able to be reimbursed through DRFA funding arrangements once works are complete. Approvals for larger, more complex projects may take more time to be approved.
  • Scheduling of works: Once works are approved, Council will appoint contractors through a tender process and works will be scheduled.

Value of works

Of the $40 million of damages identified, Council has completed over $2.8 million of asset repair works so far. Further repair works will proceed once we receive approval via DRFA.

Long-Term Commitment

Recovery is not a quick fix, it is an ongoing process that will span several years. Your patience and support are important as we navigate our recovery from these flood events.
