Naming Proposal - Eildon Splash Park

Council is proposing to name the Eildon Splash Park Baanh ba Djila, which means ‘Water and Play’ in the Taungurung language.

Importantly, the existing names of the Walter Moore and Thomas Marr Reserves will remain unchanged; Baanh ba Djila will specifically refer to the splash park and playground asset within the redevelopment. These layers of meaning encourage reflection and connection with First Nations culture among residents and visitors.

About the proposed name

Baanh ba Djila means ‘Water and Play’ in the Taungurung language. The name Baanh ba Djila reflects the purpose and use of the splash park while connecting to the interpretive elements of the project, such as signage that highlights the cultural and environmental significance of water in Taungurung traditions.

The Eildon Splash Park and Play Area meets the criteria of being a “feature” in relation to the naming proposal. This means that the Crown Land Reserve name of Walter Moore Park will remain, and the Splash Park will also have a name recognised within all Government mapping systems and general use online maps.
