Septic Tank Systems

Many properties located in Murrindindi Shire do not have access to reticulated sewerage.

Council's Domestic Wastewater Management Plan provides a strategic framework to plan and manage domestic wastewater within Murrindindi Shire.

If you plan to build on an unsewered property where there is no access to the sewerage network, you may need to connect all plumbing fixtures to a septic tank system, which treats, stores and disposes wastewater on your property in an environmentally responsible way and in accordance with Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria requirements.

A permit from Council is required to install a septic tank.
