Earlier in May, we asked the community to help us understand any local history or significance regarding the stand of pine trees in Thornton Recreation Reserve that require removal. Thank you to everyone who got in touch to share their knowledge.

Based on expert arborist advice, many of these pine trees are in poor condition and several require urgent removal. We have also been advised that the condition of any remaining trees in this section will likely deteriorate causing further safety issues for the surrounding area. Removal works will commence Monday 17 June to Friday 21 June from 8.00 am to 3.30 pm, weather permitting.

The removal of these pines will provide an opportunity for the thoughtful replanting of more suitable vegetation types and species, creating a diverse and manageable area to complement the entire reserve and our environment. Replanting will take a couple of months, so keep an eye out for new greenery!
