Murrindindi Shire Council’s Community Safety officers recently reunited a lost dog with its owners. “Rocky”, a 12-year-old terrier, was missing for five days from a property in Alexandra and is now safely back home with owner Maralyn.
This good news story highlights the importance of microchipping and registering your pet. These steps make it much easier for us to bring lost pets back to their families.
Rocky’s owner Maralyn said “I really appreciate all the support I’ve received from locals helping me find Rocky. A huge thank you goes out to a wonderful resident who found and kept Rocky in their backyard until Jess from Council’s Community Safety team could pick him up and get him back to me. If Rocky wasn’t microchipped and registered, it would have made it much harder for Council to get in touch with me and reunite us. I’m very grateful to have him back.”
Dogs and cats over the age of three months must be microchipped and registered with Council. For more information and to register your pet, or renew your pet registration, visit our Pet Registration pages.
Council’s Community Wellbeing Portfolio Councillor Jodi Adams said “Rocky’s disappearance was widely followed on social media. It was great to see the overwhelming community spirit shown during the search for Rocky and I’m so pleased he was found and reunited with his owner, Maralyn. I’m proud of our residents and our Community Safety team for their efforts. If you haven’t already, please register and microchip your pets. It’s a simple step that can make a big difference.”
