Fascinating FrogID Week webinar and walk
Published on 15 November 2024
Murrindindi Shire Council and the Australian Museum hosted a captivating online webinar for FrogID Week, followed by in-person walks in Alexandra, Kinglake and Yea on Monday 11 November, to learn about the FrogID project and why frogs matter.
Nadiah Roslan from the Australian Museum Research Institute, a biologist with extensive experience in climate biology and conservation, hosted the engaging webinar.
The presentation included an introduction to the FrogID project, why frogs matter, the importance of citizen science projects, frog species that can be found in Murrindindi Shire, unique frog species and their calls, and how to get involved using the FrogID App for FrogID Week.
Over 100 attendees participated online, with 32 people attending in-person. Following the webinar, Council’s Senior Environment Assessment Officer Sue McNair and the Alexandra group visited UT Creek; Kinglake Landcare Group co-founder Roger Cook and the Kinglake group visited Stony Creek Reserve; and local frog enthusiast Ron Litjens and the Yea group visited the Yea Wetlands.
Council’s libraries in Kinglake and Yea also celebrated FrogID Week with frog-themed story time sessions. Children enjoyed frog-related books, songs, and crafts, with librarians dressing up as frogs to add to the fun.

Murrindindi Shire Council’s CEO, Livia Bonazzi, said, “Partnering with the Australian Museum has allowed us to bring this vibrant collaborative event to Murrindindi Shire. Frogs form an important part of our diverse ecosystem, with Murrindindi Shire home to a rich variety of species. I encourage everyone to download the FrogID app, head outdoors for a frog discovery adventure, and take part in this national citizen science project. FrogID Week may end on Sunday 17 November, but you can search for frog sounds at any time of the year.
