About this opportunity

As the Resilience Planning Officer, you will deliver a $300,000 grant funded program to raise the resilience of a number of small communities across the municipalities of Murrindindi and Mansfield Shires by:

  • helping them to identify and analyse their local emergency risks and community strengths
  • developing a LEAP (Local Emergency Action Plan)
  • providing support to implement LEAP actions to increase the community’s ability to mitigate, avoid, withstand and/or recover from emergencies.

What will you bring

You will be valued for your knowledge and expertise in engaging directly with a broad range of communities; and your skills in emergency management and community development and/or engagement.

For this role we are seeking candidates who can meet the following key selection criteria:

  • Practical experience in liaising and working with a variety of community groups and external organisations, applying community development theory and practice, principles of community engagement, inclusion & participation and development of community led planning strategies.
  • Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines concurrently and work collaboratively across teams and municipalities.
  • Strong people skills including knowledge and awareness of trauma informed relationship building and an ability to develop networks and bring communities together to respond to their local needs particularly in relation to emergencies.
  • Experience with electronic systems, applications and software particularly for effective project management and community consultation work.
  • Analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant practical experience in community development or engagement within the emergency management sector.

Important Information about this role

This role is being offered as full time fixed term position until 20 February 2026, and you will be employed through Murrindindi Shire Council. The successful applicant will be required to have a presence across Murrindindi and Mansfield Shire Council offices with the option of hybrid arrangements such as working from home as agreed.

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Murrindindi Shire Council’s Enterprise Agreement. It is also a condition of employment that the successful applicant:

  • Provides evidence of eligibility to work in Australia.
  • Undertakes a Police Check and, where applicable to the role (refer Position Description), provides a current Working with Children Check.
  • Is able to travel to different work sites within the Murrindindi Shire, such as providing evidence of a current drivers licence.
