If you are ready for your next role and looking for a leadership opportunity where you can develop and implement your skills in municipal engineering functions, then Council has an exciting opportunity for you. Leading a team which includes our Traffic and Drainage Engineer, Development Engineer, and Asset Protection Officer you will align engineering management to Council’s strategic frameworks including our design and development standards and processes.

About this opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Sustainability & Assets and working closely with the rest of the Sustainability and Assets team, you will be responsible for the engagement leadership of the team while maintaining an inclusive and innovative employee culture. You will:

  • ensure engineering related strategic plans are maintained in a timely manner to best practice principles
  • ensure engineering standards are maintained and developed, taking a lead in this area for our related teams in Asset Management and Project Delivery
  • manage reviews with stakeholders, funding agencies and with contractors
  • build strong relationships and processes with internal and external teams such as the Planning, team, the Operations and Maintenance department, Department of Transport & Planning, the Catchment Management Authority amongst others
  • lead, motivate and manage the Engineering Services team to uphold Council’s values, provide a high level of service and encourage excellence in service delivery
  • lead continuous improvement and innovation in engineering services with the aim of better meeting the needs of the community, including options for shared services and joint procurement
  • contribute as a member of the leadership team for the Sustainability & Assets Department and work closely with other teams to deliver on our collective outcomes.

What you will bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering and appropriate industry experience and training.
  • Relevant experience in infrastructure assets and/or related disciplines, including the development and delivery of asset management plans.
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working as part of a team, excellence in customer service and organisational values.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and verbal communication with other professionals, contractors, consultants, community groups and residents.
  • Skilled in the preparation of engineering strategies, policies and quality procedures.
  • Experience in managing or supervising a team of engineering and technical staff.
  • Demonstrated project management capacity.
  • Ability to use computer systems and software used by the organisation, including GIS, MS Office, project management software and email.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety and environmental management issues.
