Local Emergency Action Plans (LEAPs)

The first part of the LEAPing into Resilience Project has been completed. It was a joint initiative between Murrindindi, Mansfield, and Strathbogie Shire Councils, funded by the Australian Government. The project engaged with communities across the three municipalities, to develop a Local Emergency Action Plan (LEAP) in several communities in each shire.

The LEAPing into Resilience Project aims to build the resilience of small communities to withstand the impacts of natural disasters by creating a comprehensive LEAP.

The LEAPing into Resilience Project utilises a community development approach, emphasising the importance of local knowledge, skills, resources and culture for emergency preparedness, while collaborating with various local emergency agencies. LEAPs will compliment other levels of emergency planning, at the municipal, regional and state levels.

Council has been successful in securing extra funding to work with more communities to develop LEAPs beginning in April 2025, thanks to a grant awarded from the Safer Together Program through the Victorian Government's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA). This upcoming Project will be in partnership with Mansfield Shire Council.
