Council’s Building Department can assist you with obtaining information about your own property or one that you may be looking to buy. Building permits, certificates and forms can be accessed through our online Building portal.

Building Regulation 51 (1) provides information to any person about buildings or structures on a property that have been built in the last 10 years, including any certificate of final inspection. You may also request any current determination under regulation 64(1) or exemption under regulation 231(2), and any current notice or order issued by the relevant building surveyor under the Building Act 1993, for any building or land.
Complete a Building Information Response – Regulation 51(1) Application via our online Building portal and submit it along with the applicable fee (outlined on the application form) to Council.
In the online Building portal, select Building, then Request Property Info.
Building Regulation 51 (2) provides information to any person on termites, bushfire and flood prone areas associated with a property or land.
Complete a Property Information Response – Regulation 51(2) Application via the online Building portal and submit it along with the applicable fee (outlined on the application form) to Council.
In the customer portal, select Building, then Request Property Info.
Building Regulation 51 (3) provides information to an owner or mortgagee of a building or land, or a prescribed practitioner reporting on a building under section 137B if the Building Act 1993, on the approved dates of any mandatory inspections carried out on the building or land.
Complete a Property Information Response – Regulation 51(3) Application via the customer portal and submit it along with the applicable fee (outlined on the application form) to Council’s Building Unit.
In the customer portal, select Building, then Request Property Info.
Land Information Certificates are issued by Council's rates department and provide details of property valuation and rates outstanding. It may also include subdivision monies in relation to public open space that may be owing. Visit Land Information Certificates for further information and to apply for this certificate.
Property owners in Murrindindi Shire can request copies of building plans and documents.
Keep in mind that older plans (over 20 years) might not be available or in good condition.
It may take up to 10 business days to get the plans.
There is a non-refundable fee to retrieve files, and extra fees for residential and commercial requests.

Important information:
- Pursuant to Section 248 of the Building Act 1993, a person must not act on behalf of an owner of a building or land for the purpose of making any application, appeal or referral under the Act or the regulations unless the person is authorised in writing by the owner to do.
- These documents can only be provided to the owner, the mortgagee or their authorised agent.
- The data is not to be sold, copied or modified without the written consent of Murrindindi Shire Council.
- Boundary setbacks and other dimensions shown on plans retrieved should not be relied upon without being confirmed on site.
- Sewer drainage lines are rarely shown on building plans. Stormwater and drainage lines, if shown, are usually indicative only and should not be relied upon without being confirmed on site.

Council can only provide the name and mailing address of adjoining property owners for the purpose of fencing enquiries.
